Feelings of longing are often accompanied by anxiety and depression. These symptoms might range from mild to severe. If you have planned to study abroad then you should prepare yourself for some feelings of homesickness. Regardless of how excited and prepared you are for your upcoming experience you are bound to miss home. Feelings of loneliness and sadness are not strange for students who study abroad. Don’t let these feelings to affect your future, you should be prepared to deal with these feelings. Here are some ways to deal with them:

  1. You should be prepared for homesickness to strike. Take some things on your trip as sweet memories of home. You can collect pictures of friends and family, some sort of favorite music or a favorite magazine. These things help you to provide feelings that you are close to home.
  2. You can build a network of friends and colleagues while studying abroad. This will help you to combat feelings of loneliness by spending time with others.
  3. You should stay busy. Immense yourself in your studies instead of idle activities. Try to participate in additional activities outside of class. Look for part time internship or job while you study abroad. It is hard to be homesick if you have a busy routine and no idle time to think about home.
  4. Talk with others about your feeling. Try to build friendships with other students who are studying abroad. They will be your best friends because there are great chances that they are also dealing with homesickness. Talk with in counselor about your homesickness if you need to. You will also check if your university or study abroad program offers counseling services.
  5. You should call home to talk to your parents and friends. You can also stay in touch with them by emailing them on regular basis. It is very important to stay connected to people you love any way you can.
  6. Have positive thoughts. Make a list of all rewarding and exciting experiences you have as you study abroad. Note that how these experiences have helped you to grow as a successful person. When you are feeling homesick, take out your list and read it to motivate yourself.

It transforms its academic programs from a strictly classical curriculum to one that includes science and research. During 20th century and early 2000s, University of Michigan was site of much student activism.

In October 14, 1960 when Presidential Candidate John F. Kennedy visited University, he gave an impromptu speech on steps of Michigan Union that led to a University of Michigan student movement which contributed to establishment of Peace Corps. The university was also focal point in argument over confirmatory action within higher education admissions. In 2009 world university rankings the university was ranked 19thamong universities worldwide. In 2010 Michigan was ranked 15th in world university rankings. University has one of world’s largest numbers of living alumni at 460,000. The university is alma mater to late U.S president Gerald Ford. The Ann Arbor campus is divided into four main areas like North, Central, Medical and South Campuses. The physical infrastructure includes more than 500 major buildings, with combined area of more than 31 million square feet (712 acres or 2.38 Km2). The Central and South Campus areas are contiguous, while North Campus area is separated from them, primarily by Huron River. There is also leased space in building scattered throughout city, several occupied by organizations affiliated with University of Michigan Health System. An East Medical Campus has recently been developed on Plymouth Road, with several universities owned buildings for outpatient care, diagnostics and outpatient surgery.

All four campuses are connected by bus service, the majority of which connect North and Central Campuses. There is a shuttle service connecting University Hospital, which lies between North and Central Campuses with other medical facilities throughout northeastern Ann Arbor.

Computer Engineering Education

Computer engineers get education about core principles, theories and application of computer engineering and science. They are generally trained in an engineering college of school affiliated to a university. A computer engineer can specialize in software, hardware, network or systems engineering. Apart from specific educational qualifications and coursework, a computer engineer needs to gain certain additional attributes and skills to succeed in today’s challenging and diverse job settings. To become a computer engineer, several individuals enroll in bachelor’s degree program. This degree level qualifies an individual for most computer engineering positions. An understanding of computer programming along with studies in math and science prepared a student to embark on computer engineering career.

PERQUISITES

Colleges look for certain high school classes on student’s transcripts as prerequisites for a computer engineering bachelor’s degree program. According to institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, students should have at least four years of English and two years of social science. Four years of science are suggested as well including chemistry and physics. Students should also take mathematics during all four years of high school, including classes in trigonometry and pre-calculus.

CLASSES

A computer engineering Bachelor’s degree program will include considerable amount of science and mathematics classes in addition to general educational requirements of college or university. Students should expect classes like introduction to computing, software engineering, computer hardware and computer design. Electives for computer engineering degree might include operating systems, artificial intelligence or database design.

SKILLS

Computer engineers learn how to design and create software application and computer systems. They should also learn how to test and evaluate computer networks, business applications and operating systems. Most of this work involves documented planning diagrams and flowcharts as well as use of complex computer algorithms. Computer engineers should be able to understand and use programming languages as well.

DEGREE

A number of degrees can direct to career in computer engineering. Systems software engineers might major in computer science or computer information systems. Other relevant tracks of studies are mathematics, information systems and computer science. Students can also choose to focus their elective choices in specific area like business or physical sciences in order to prepare for future career.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer engineers need to pursue continuing education throughout their career in order to keep up with changing technologies. A master’s degree might be necessary for complex positions, though there are also several certification courses designed to provide proficiency in certain technology, software or application. These courses might be offered at local colleges, distance learning programs or through a software vendor.
